A Weatherford High School art class created two mural projects, which are on display on the Performing Arts Center and art room.

The art room mural was a collaboration by Art III students Alyssa Esquivel, Cadence Dowty, Bre Toney, Nyah Busallato and Natalie Pekah. Art teacher Nikki Harrington had the five each research and choose an artist for inspiration, which were then put into a collage and transferred to a grid for painting.

The image reflects well-known works such as Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” and Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” as well as incorporating other fun works such as Jean-Michel Basquit’s bold expressionist characters, Yayai Kusama’s polka-dot mushrooms and Vanessa Stockard’s funny cats. The images are set on a rainbow sun background inspired by Alma Thomas.

Jaxon Williams, Maria Esparza and Ana Arrieta created the large mural for the PAC based around the performing arts. The trio chose happy and sad expression masks as the focal point for the painting, which frequently is used to represent theatre.

The image also includes a film slate and top hat for balance. A blue-to-orange gradient sky filled with stars was added to make sure the image was eye-catching.

Both groups said the projects took about 2 months to complete.
