It was the Cade Jennings show Tuesday night for the Weatherford Eagles as he scored 30 points, giving Weatherford a 68-38 win against Chickasha.

“Cade is real streaky and once he gets going, he is really hard to stop,” coach Derrick Bull said. “He is capable of shooting really well for us. He is not the only one who can do this as we have lots of shooters on our team. I just happened to be his night and he executed extremely well.”

Weatherford was ahead 8-0 a minute and a half into the game with plays like A.J. Stevenson and Cade Jennings scoring 3-pointers.

Weatherford built a 17-6 advantage as Zach Reherman was fouled going to the hole and he made his shot and free throw. Reherman also had a dunk on an attempted rebound, giving Weatherford a 24-10 advantage going into the second quarter.

Weatherford opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run with plays like Jennings coring a fast-break layup. Weatherford played very solid defense, only allowing Chickasha to score 2 points and those points came with15 seconds left in the quarter. Stevenson hit a 3-pointer, making the score 35-12 at halftime.

“We hang our hat on defense,” Bull said. “This is something we stress, work on and talk about more than anything else. In the Weatherford tournament, we did not play well on defense at times, but at one point, we were giving up about 39-40 points. We defended well.”

Jennings had a steal and scored a layup before Chickasha could pass half court. Weatherford was in control in the third quarter, leading 51-21 with 2:30 left in the third quarter. Weatherford was well in front going into the fourth quarter, leading 55-28.

Weatherford won the game, 68-38. The Eagles forced 10 turnovers and Bull said they are in a good spot right now.

“This was a good team win,” Bull said. “We wanted to get off to a fast start, which we did. Lots of guys got to play which is good for their experience. I am happy with this team. There still are some things we need to improve on, but we are playing well right now. Shot selection is something we can always improve on such as game prep, but I really like where we are at right now.”

Weatherford improves to 8-2 on the season and played at Newcastle Friday. Weatherford returns to action, 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elgin.
