Weatherford splits games at Tuttle tournament

TUTTLE — Weatherford baseball competed in the Tuttle Spring Break Shootout and splits games, finishing 2-2 in the weekend tournament. They defeated Elgin 6-1 and Bethany

They defeated Elgin 6-1 and Bethany 5-2. However, the Eagles also lost to the OKC Broncos 7-4 and lost to Dale 10-0. Weatherford currently is 6-2 on the season and played at Lookeba-Sickles Tuesday. Weatherford plays its next game, 3:30 p.m. Thursday against Tuttle in the first round of the I-40 Classic tournament at Weatherford.

Weatherford 6, Elgin 1

Weatherford scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and Brett Bozarth pitched until the fifth inning and he gave up no hits and only a run.

In the bottom of the first inning, Reece Villines recorded an RBI and hit a single. Bozarth scored as a result. Sam Hoffman hit a ground ball and was thrown out, but Villines scored from third base. No runs were scored in the second inning.

Elgin scored a run in the top of the third inning. The Eagles responded with a run of their own when Cameryn Pruitt recorded an RBI double and Jayden Minter scored a run, making the score 3-1. No runs were scored in the fourth inning.

Weatherford scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Carter Teasley hit a ground ball to second base. He was thrown out, but Minter scored on this play.

The Eagles scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Caden Hunter recorded an RBI double and Bozarth scored. Minter recorded an RBI double and Villines scored. The eagles played their first full seven inning game of the season and won 6-1.

OKC Broncos 7, Weatherford 4

Weatherford was ahead in the first inning, but quickly fell behind after giving up six runs in the top of the second inning.

Weatherford trailed 1-0, but scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Hunter recorded an RBI single on a line drive into left field and Bozarth scored. Villines scored when the bases were loaded and Pruitt was walked. Hoffman hit a ground ball into a double play, but recorded an RBI as Hunter scored.

The OKC Broncos scored six runs in the top of the second inning and were ahead 7-3 after two innings of play. Weatherford scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bozarth recorded an RBI as Teasley scored.

No more runs were scored in this game and Weatherford suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 7-4.

Weatherford 5, Bethany 2

Weatherford built a three-run lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Hunter recorded an RBI as Bozarth scored on the play. Hunter scored a run from third base, as Hoffman was walked with the bases loaded. Teasley recorded an RBI single with a hard ground ball to center field and Minter scored.

The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the second inning, as Bozarth scored a run off a passed ball when the bases were loaded. No runs were scored in the third inning. Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning. Weatherford scored their run when Minter recorded an RBI single on a line drive and Villines scored. Bethany scored a run in the top of the

Bethany scored a run in the top of the seventh inning, but the Eagles won the game 5-2. Teasley pitched the entire game for Weatherford and recorded six strikeouts.

Dale 10, Weatherford 0

Weatherford held Dale scoreless in the top of the first inning and in the top of the fifth inning. Dale built their lead early in the game, as they scored two runs in the top of the second inning and they scored a run at the top of the third and fourth innings. Dale scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning and scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning. Weatherford had no answer for Dale and the Eagles lost 10-0.
