The grand opening of the Corn Patch Community Park is 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday on the corner of Reimer and Jefferson in Corn.

The new park features a tot lot, outdoor exercise equipment, a wooden playground structure, walking trail, picnic pavilion, splash pad and a water feature.

The ribbon cutting is 10:30 a.m. with comments by Corn Mayor Barbara Nurnberg, Washita County Commissioner Bart Gossen and State Rep. Todd Russ. This will be followed by a $5 lunch available until 1 p.m. The meal includes pulled-pork sandwiches, chips, a homemade cookie and a drink. Corn Patch Park T-shirts also will be for sale.

Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. Shaded areas will be provided. The Splash Pad will be open.

Debbie Dyck, whose husband is on the board for the Town of Corn, said this has been a nearly 4-yearlong effort by the entire town. The land, which was formerly the Washita Heights baseball/softball field, was donated to the town by Drew, Loris and Ben Snider.

The town spent years raising money, writing grants and planning the layout. Dyck said the park creates a great space for families to get together. She said the design intentionally features lots of green space so patrons “can bring their corn hole set, play Frisbee or whatever else they want.”

She said the park is a culmination of the hard work of Town of Corn and its residents, and she is pretty excited for the grand opening.
