Court Appointed Special Advocates of Western Oklahoma (CASA) is preparing for its annual Golf Tournament September 24 in Weatherford.

CASA of Western Oklahoma, which operates in Beckham, Custer, Dewey, Roger Mills and Washita counties, trains volunteers to work with and be the voice of children who are in state custody.

Jackie Aaron, executive director of CASA of Western Oklahoma, said the organization functions on grants and donations, and the golf tournament is its only fundraising event each year.

Aaron said these funds pay for background checks and training for volunteers. It also covers little extras for CASA kids such as buying cleats for a teen who wants to play football.

Aaron said grant funding has been down 37 percent the last 2 years, so this fundraiser will be a big help to keep CASA running and helping local children.

Aaron said the Weatherford community, which is home to their district office, always has been supportive of CASA, and she is very grateful for everyone’s continued support.
