The Custer County Board of Commissioners approved three items regarding a REAP Grant for the conservation district during its meeting Monday morning.

The first action was to approve a REAP Grant application for Custer County Conservation District 88.

If approved, the funds will be used to build a new shop in the Commerce Industrial Center in Clinton.

A representative from the district said the current shop currently is located in town near Southwest Elementary, making it difficult to move heavy machinery. The district shop also houses the Conservation Commission, and it is getting crowded.

Since the district owns a couple of acres in the industrial park, they wanted to apply for the grant to build an additional shop. However, the representative said the district’s main office will be at the USDA building along U.S. 183.

In addition to the application, the board approved a resolution stating they support the conservation district seeking these funds and an interlocal agreement with the district regarding the REAP funds.

The Custer County Conservation District applies for this grant every year, usually to purchase equipment.

In other news, the board voted to accept the bids for the expansion to the Custer County Fairgrounds. The accepted bid was from Jason Rose and Co. for $169,800 to build an education room and handicap accessible bathrooms to the show barn.

The board approved three transfers: $10,000 from District 3 M&O to Capital Outlay, $26,883.47 from Capital Improvement M&O to Capital Outlay, and $100 from Family Treatment Court M&O to Travel.

The board approved blanket purchase orders and purchase orders for payments. The board took no action on COVID-19 procedures for the courthouse.
