The condition of the roof at the Custer County Jail was discussed during Monday morning’s county commission meeting.

Recently, the jail roof has been patched several times, but leaks still persist.

District 2 Commissioner Bruce Walker said he visited with two contractors this week to get a consultation on the roof. District 3 Commissioner Lyle Miller said he has one more lined up.

The first contractor said the materials used on the roof would determine the ability to patch it. The second said the roof more likely would need to be replaced. Walker said one contractor said the original work on the roof did not appear to be quality.

No action was taken at this time, and the commission will continue to consult contractors before making a decision.

In other news, the board approved distribution for the county half-penny sales tax, which will be on the ballot early next year. The tax will replace the current county half-penny sales tax. If passed, the county general fund will receive 50 percent, the sheriff’s office will receive 30 percent, the OSU Extension Office will receive 8 percent, the six rural fire departments will split 8 percent and the county ree fair board will receive 4 percent.

The board approved the surplus and disposal of a computer for the county clerk’s office. The board also approved the financial statement for fiscal year 2021.

The board approved an entrance permit for the ongoing wind farm project.

The board approved blanket purchase orders, purchase orders for payment and a monthly officer’s report. The board took no action on the contract with Multi-County Youth and Family Services as the county sheriff’s office does not use their services. If services are needed at a later date, it can be handled at that time.
