ARAPAHO — The Custer County Board of Commissions received a brief update on the ongoing courthouse window project and the hazard mitigation saferoom project.

District 3 Commissioner Lyle Miller said he met with the representatives from Crystal Structure, the company who will be manufacturing and installing the window, and was pleased by their professionalism. The representatives had a look at the existing window structures to get an idea about which area will require more work than others.

County Clerk Melissa Graham said she received an email from the project managers which said he would be meeting with the company soon and then would work with the different county offices to form a schedule.

Graham said she would call an officers meeting in the near future to get input regarding the schedule from those stationed in the courthouse.

County Emergency Management Director Mike Galloway said he 2018 saferoom project almost is complete. All of the saferooms have been installed but some paperwork still needs to be finished.

Galloway has been preapproved for his 2021 saferoom project but said he is waiting on approval from FEMA to proceed. Right now, Galloway has about 35 people on his waiting list and has several people calling who are interested.

Galloway said he needs 75 people — 50 installers and 25 backups — to get the project started. He said he used about 15 of the 25 backups during this past project.

Those interested in this project can contact Galloway at (580) 323-4105 or email custerem@gmail.com.
