The Interstate 40 Exit 82 eastbound on ramp phase 3 has been under construction for the past few months.

This will be the only roundabout known west of Oklahoma City.

On a roundabout drivers do not have to come to a complete stop which prevents congestion. Drivers driving out of a roundabout move to the right which is made to prevent collisions.

The project will add access to the Heartland of America Museum. It will not take any access away from citizens. boardmembers of the museum said they are very excited about the new access they will receive from the roundabout.

“The project Sewell Construction is working on will be about 126 feet in diameter. We’re expecting the project to be done in April, depending on the weather. The location is specifically for the service road by the Heartland of America Museum, where the road used to dead end. They’re finishing up the concrete pavement. Next they will pour the asphalt, then put in the final grading and place the grass. Essentially drivers now will have eastbound access to the service road from the intersection of East Main Street and the Interstate 40 on/off ramps. Westbound Service Road traffic will be routed around the roundabout and returned to the eastbound service road,” Construction Manager of Atkins Lucas Reed said.

Atkins is the company overseeing the project.

The total cost of the project was about $2.5 million, but the City of Weatherford was required to pay a supplement fee. The Weatherford City Commission, needed to approve the payment, which it did, 5-0, during a meeting in September. The total cost for the city was about $504,337.

An additional $6,079 has been added due to an extra amount in engineering cost. The total amount for the city is $510,416.
