Weatherford high school forensics students were in charge of investigating a crime scene Wednesday in Weber Park along Washington Street.

Forensics teacher Dennis Seifried said students will have about a week to solve the mystery.

“This is a simple scene, but it’s a very difficult case to solve and next Wednesday they will present their findings,” Seifried said.

Weatherford Police Department School Resource Officer Justin Bushong was in charge of creating the mock crime scene.

“We threw some twists and turns in the crime scene to throw the students off. It’s actually pretty simple if they follow the right directions. Hopefully students get a lesson out of it as well. I’m also hoping they use some of the things they’ve learned in Mr. Seifried’s class to figure this out,” Bushong said.

Students used what they learned in forensics class to help solve the mystery.

“I’ve learned to really watch my feet and watch where I step to make sure no evidence is compromised. I started with walking around the premises. Another first step is learning what the motive is,” forensics student Holden Jennings said.

Students also took pictures of the crime scene to document evidence.

“I looked to see where everything is and assessed the situation. Next I determined whether the situation was staged or natural. I also took pictures and I’m trying to figure out what happened,” forensics student Casen Falasco said.
