Lady Eagles improve to 5-0 in district

The Weatherford Lady Eagles picked up two big district wins this past week, beating Cache 5-2 Tuesday and Elk City 7-2 Thursday.

Weatherford 7, Elk City 2

It took three innings, but Weatherford scored first and held on to the lead to improve its district record to 5-0.

Weatherford scored 2 runs in the bottom of the third. Cydnee Henderson hit a 1-out double to right field. Two batters later, she scored as Meliah Brown doubled to center field. Brown scored in the next at bat as Camry Teasley singled to center field. It was 2-0 Weatherford.

The Lady Eagles added 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth. Henderson hit a 1- out single to right field. Ember Hensley followed that up with a single. Those two and Brown all scored when Brown hit a home run over the wall in right field. Weatherford was ahead 5-0.

Elk City scored 2 runs in the top of the sixth on back-to-back RBI singles to make it 5-2.

Weatherford added 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Abbie Moses led off the inning with a walk. Two batters later, Megan Mills walked. Kennedy Stewart then doubled to center field and Hunter Bayless scored. Henderson singled to right field and Mills scored to give Weatherford a 7-2 lead.

Weatherford 5, Cache 2

Weatherford Lady Eagles improved their district record to 4-0 after winning at Cache 5-2 Tuesday.

Brown pitched a complete game and picked up the win, giving up 2 runs, one unearned, 6 hits and striking out three.

Weatherford scored first in the top of the third inning. Brown led off the inning with a double to left field. two batters later, she scored when Autumn Phillips singled to center field. The Lady Eagles had the early 1-0 lead.

Cache tied the score, 1-1, in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single. The run was unearned as the baserunner reached base earlier in the inning on an error.

Weatherford added 3 runs in the top of the fifth. Hensley led off the inning reaching base on an error. Brown and Teasley each singled to load the bases with no one out. Two batters later, all three, Hensley, Brown and Teasley, scored when Moses doubled to left field. Weatherford was ahead 4-1.

Cache scored its second run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly ball out, making the score 4-2.

Weatherford added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Phillips singled to left field to lead off the inning. Hayden Warren came in to pinchrun. Three batters later, Warren scored as Mills singled to center field. This made the score, 5-2.

Weatherford played at Hydro-Eakly Monday and will face Tuttle at home today.
