Economic growth has been a staple in the plans for the future of Weatherford as the city continues to gain opportunities for major corporate companies — one of those companies coming to Weatherford is Whataburger.
The investor of the property confirmed with the Weatherford Daily News Whataburger is scheduled to open sometime in 2023. The fast food chain will be located across from Walmart along Eagle Road.
“This is a big opportunity for Weatherford and it’s a great location for a Whataburger. A lot of people say having another restaurant only will spread out where people are eating and where our sales tax dollars come from. I personally think it will bring more people to town,” Mayor Mike Brown said.
Economic Development Director Yolanda Creswell said she contacted Whataburger in the past.
“I don’t want to take credit for it, but awhile back I reached out to Whataburger and gave them some demographics. I don’t know if that triggered them coming here or if they figured it out on their own,” Creswell said.
Creswell also said this presents a unique opportunity for more growth in Weatherford.
“With any of those fast food chains, there are always things to follow. When other companies see the success of the businesses we have here, others become interested. The show of our growth and our location off of the Interstate puts us in a good spot to get businesses like Whataburger,” Creswell said.
As of press time Friday, no permits had been filed with the City of Weatherford.
