The Pioneer Center in Weatherford began its Phase 1 of reopening Monday with in-person dining and a short period for visiting.

The building is open 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday for the lunch group, but CADC Nutrition still is offering drive-thru meals as well. Those using either meal service will need to notify Sandy Williams, the nutrition site director, by 9 a.m. the day of and specify whether they will be dining-in or driving through. Once the decision has been made, it cannot be switched. Participants using the dine-in facilities need to park on the north end of the parking lot and be in the building by 11:30 a.m. Temperatures will be checked before anyone is allowed to enter and social distancing will be implemented. In addition, traffic will be limited through the use of one-way signage throughout the building.

Once inside, participants will be required to finish eating before they can leave. Masks are encouraged but not mandatory. A more detailed information sheet will be passed out to Pioneer Center participants.

This is the first time the building has opened to anyone besides the CADC Nutrition staff since late March when COVID-19 shutdowns began. Since then, city employees have been moved to work in other areas with the exception of recently retired Director Callie Waldrop and now Melissa Gabbart.

Mayor Mike Brown said the City of Weatherford is not hiring a new director right now because the building is functionally closed for the most part. He said the city most likely will begin the hiring process in January.
