Friday, the Pioneer Center hosted a belated retirement reception for former Director Callie Waldrop.

Waldrop retired last year while the center still was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the reception, Mayor Mike Brown gave a presentation declaring Friday, July 30, 2021, Callie Waldrop Day in honor of her 11.5 years of service to the Pioneer Center and the City of Weatherford.

She also was presented with a portrait which would be hung next to Linda Olson’s, who was the previous director of the Pioneer Center.

Mayor Brown also announced two rooms at the Pioneer Center would be named in the former directors’ honor – the Callie Waldrop Craft Room and the Linda Olson Library.

Waldrop said the years of work have been a cooperative effort with staff and volunteers. She also said the seniors who attend the center have been a big blessing in her life.

“Getting to visit every day with the people who come to the center was a wonderful experience because they weren’t just people, they became my friends,” she said.
