Rachel Barry is a senior at Hydro-Eakly High School and has attended Hydro-Eakly her entire life.

Rachel’s parents are Karen Klaassen and Bret Barry.

Barry is the National Honor Society President and the Student Council Vice President this year. She is also involved in Renaissance and FFA.

Barry ran cross country and played softball in junior high and has played basketball since third grade.

“My favorite part of high school was winning a state championship,” Barry said.

Barry’s most challenging part of her senior year has been balancing her college lifestyle with high school and taking more advanced courses while trying to stay involved at Hydro-Eakly.

Barry recently signed with Oklahoma City University to play basketball next fall. Barry is most excited to spread her wings and becoming more independent.

Some advice she would like to give underclassmen is, “don’t take your time in high school for granted. There are big things to look forward to, but these are your last years of being a kid.”

Barry said the best advice she has ever received is to not stress too much about what happens after high school.

“Do your part and everything will fall into place,” she said.

Like many basketball players this year, Barry hopes to have a safe and complete season of basketball.

When asked who Barry would like to thank she said, “My momma, for giving me the best taste in music and for always being there when I need it, even when it’s not convenient for her; my dad, for teaching me to work hard and set high goals for myself; my grandparents, for loving me unconditionally and giving me the honor of being the ‘favorite Kathryn’ in the family; Hayden, for being my best friend and giving me the best friends; and Erin, for teaching me how to be a role model and always being up for a car concert, even though I’m the most awful singer.”

Barry has had a lot of influential teachers, but one that she is especially appreciative of is Liz Hinojosa.

“She taught me the importance of sticking up for myself and always reaching to be the best. Gracias, y te extranao (Thank you, and I miss you),” Barry said.
