The Custer County Board of Commissioners voted to authorize the calling and holding of a special election February 8, 2022, regarding the county sales tax.

Voters will decide whether to approve a new sales tax. The commissioners are saying this tax would extend the current one-half cent county sales tax for another 5 years. If passed, 50 percent of the proceeds would go toward general government, 30 percent would go toward the sheriff’s office, 8 percent would go toward the county OSU Extension office, another 8 percent would go toward the six rural fire departments and 4 percent would go toward the county fair board for fairground maintenance.

This is the same proposal as the last sales tax election.

The board also approved an election proclamation and notice of election.

In other news, the board approved a lease purchase agreement between District 3 with Warren Cat for a new loader. The board also approved the bid for three-eighths-inch limestone chips from Dolese for $13.80 per ton.

The board approved a transfer for the county election board - $500 from M&O to Capital Outlay. The board also approved blanket purchase order and purchase orders for payment. The board took no action on courthouse COVID-19 procedures, choosing to keep things the same for the moment.
