Weatherford’s Thomas Stafford, the nation’s youngest brigadier general in the Air Force and veteran of three previous space flights, will head the crew of the history-making joint American-Russian space flight in July of 1975.
Stafford phoned his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Stafford, from Houston at 2 p.m. on Tuesday to tell her he would command the flight.
