Summer break is in session, but teachers and staff still are working hard to provide for their students.

This summer is the inaugural year for the Leg-Up Summer Program at West Elementary. This Tuesday through Thursday program is specifically designed for students entering 2nd through 4th grades.

Their day begins at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast and ends at noon with lunch. Throughout the morning, students go through four different stations designed to help them grow academically. Math, Reading, STEM and Social/emotional learning are the subjects of focus.

The Leg-Up program works in conjunction with Weatherford’s free breakfast and lunch program going on through the summer. Every Tuesday through Thursday, all children 18 and under can go to West elementary for a free breakfast and lunch.

“Come and eat,” Sharbee Heinrichs, director of nutrition services said. “If you’re a little bit late, just come a little bit late. We’ll be here.”

Adults are welcome to come for a meal as well, but there is a $2.00 breakfast charge and a $4.15 lunch fee.

The Tuesday through Thursday meals can only be eaten at West Elementary this year, not taken to go. Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
