National Voter Registration Day will be celebrated Tuesday, September 22, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford with an outdoor 12 noon event featuring the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote and the 19th Amendment. 

 “Votes for Women: A Celebration” is planned 12 noon-1 p.m. on the Memorial Student Center lawn. In addition, attendees will be able to verify their voter registration and sign up for voting reminders via TurboVote—a free service.

Three 15-minute speeches are planned. They include:

· 12:15 p.m. - Dr. Amanda Smith - Humor in the Fight for Suffrage

· 12:30 p.m. - Jessica Salmans - It’s Fashionable to Vote: Subversive

Clothing & the Saffragettes

· 12:45 p.m. - Dr. Heather Katz - Women in Political Office/Voter

Registration & Participation

The public is invited to the free event. Free lunches (while supplies last) are available for SWOSU students but must be reserved by picking up a ticket in the SWOSU Dean of Students Office in Room 214 of the Stafford Center.

SWOSU Vice President Dr. Ruth Boyd, Natanya Hernandez and Jessica Quintero—representing SWOSU Student Affairs and the Multicultural Office and Parents’ Network—will give the welcome at 12 noon.
