Homemade ice cream, free swimming, food trucks, dunk tanks, vendors and family fun — all of these await community members who attend the first Route 66 Nights of 2022 July 29 in Means Park.

The event will be from 6-9 p.m. and it will be packed full of summer fun. “We have the homemade ice

“We have the homemade ice cream contest. It’s $10 to enter for a nonprofit and $25 for the other groups,” Weatherford Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Elizabeth Amen said. “The contest is peoples’ choice, so you can buy a limited number wristband for $5, and then you get a scoop of everyone’s ice cream, and then you get to vote and help to determine the winner.”

Not only do ice cream contestants have the opportunity to interact with community members, but they also have the chance to win a grand prize, including an advertising package from the WDN.

“The winners of the nonprofit division will receive a $2,000 marketing package from Weatherford Daily News and Wright Wradio. The other group will receive a $500 summer package.”

Amen emphasized the importance of advertising for businesses, especially nonprofit organizations that often rely on fundraisers. She encouraged all businesses, nonprofits and those running home businesses to enter an ice cream team to take advantage of the chance to win such a generous prize.

Ice cream contestants have the opportunity to win a substantial award, but community members in attendance are sure to have a memorable night as well, thanks to the dunk tank.

“We have some people from town you are going to want to see in the tank,” Amen said. “We might have a little surprise in the water when you dunk them. Dunking is three throws for $1, so it’s very affordable to come and have the chance to dunk your teacher, or your boss or coach.”

It is certainly an event you don’t want to miss, and businesses also don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to win free advertising. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. The pool closes at 8 p.m.

For those who are interested in signing up in the homemade ice cream contest, contact the Weatherford Area Chamber of Commerce at (580) 772-7744 or visit them at 210 W. Main St. to pick up a registration form and pay the entry fee.
