Weatherford is a safe town thanks to the amazing police officer force adding to Weatherford being and oted the safest city in Oklahoma approximately six years ago.

Recently, there were some calls for police officers from residents and suspicious activities such as vandalism, larceny and burglaries, but some of them were false alarms.

“Calls for service have been up a little recently, but we are a very safe city,” Chief Flowers said. “If individuals see or hear something, call us. We cannot do our job without the citizens helping us. Weatherford is great about responding and we will answer every call. We are a very safe city and want to let everyone know we will continue to strive to make everyone feel safe.”

There were two larceny police notes last weekend, according to police records.

Chief Flowers said the only items stolen were a few towels and an ear of corn.

There also were three arrests last weekend. Elijah Nix was arrested for Public Intoxication and transporting a fire arm while intoxicated, according to police records. Chief Flowers said Nix reached for a fire arm and the officer responded immediately and made the arrest.

Michael Bolden was arrested for DUI, Driving Under Suspension and no insurance, according to police records. Chief Flowers said Bolden hit a vehicle while driving and was arrested after the accident.

Amanda Arnold was arrested for public intoxication, obstruction, resisting arrest and threatening acts of violence, according to police records. Chief Flowers said Arnold was arrested, then resisted, but these acts are not too unusual. There were two burglary police notes,

There were two burglary police notes, according to police records. Chief Flowers said one was a prank and no report was made. The other one was a car being towed off of private property and the owner thought it was being towed illegally and a report was made about it being towed off of private property, according to police records.

“Do you see what we have to deal with,” Chief Flowers said jokingly. “When we get a call, we respond immediately, but that is what makes Weatherford so safe.”

There were two shots fired reported in police notes, but no reports were made. One was at Oak Drive and the other one was made at 100 block E. University drive.

Flowers said the Oak Drive report could have been misinterpreted as a semi-truck blowing a flat tire, since it is close to Interstate 40 and so late at night.

The one at 100 block E. University drive, apparently nothing was wrong as Chief Flowers said residents around where the call was made said that they heard nothing.

Chief Flowers said there are some scams going around. The top 10 scams going around the country are a debt collector, fake government official, personal identity theft, phone scam, loan scam, sweepstake scams, internet merchandise scams, automobile and credit bureau scams, spoofing emails and fake check payments.

“There have been some scams going around and we want everyone to be aware,” Chief Flowers said. “If you receive a suspicious call, do not answer, just hang up. Do not ever give any personal information, especially your financial information. There have been some calls about the IRS needing tax money. The IRS will not call you, so this is for sure a scam.”
