WATONGA — The Weatherford Eagles girls cross country team finished in third place as a team with Kennadi Price winning the race and Jordan Hoffman claiming second place.

Watonga won its home meet and Kingfisher finished second.

“I thought the girls ran really well,” coach Kaleb Fischer said. “Kingfisher and Watonga both have really good teams and I felt like we kept it close. We have some work to do to catch Kingfisher and we will be working on that during the next few weeks.”

Price won the race with a time of 9:33.75 and 15 seconds behind her coming in second was Hoffman with a time of 9:48.25.

“Kennadi and Jordan are just great competitors,” Fischer said. “They both work hard to get their bodies to that place.”

Morgan Mouse finished 14th with a time of 10:27.12. Ana Arrieta finished 26th with a time of 10:46.06. Peyton Foster finished 66th with a time of 12:01.12. Brooklyn Floyd finished 74th with a time of 12:10.93. Ava Foster finished 87th with a time of 12:30.81.

“I was happy with the way Morgan and Ana ran this week,” Fischer said. “They both looked stronger than last week at the Weatherford meet. We still need to get our 5-7 runners up closer to Morgan and Ana. Those spots are so important to the team so we are working on improving there.”

Weatherford’s next meet is 9 a.m. Saturday at Kingfisher.

“I am excited to go to Kingfisher because they will run the first 2-mile race of the season and that will really let me know where we are at and what we need to work on,” Fischer said. “I think it is good to see some competition and the girls having to work harder because we will see more and better competition moving forward.”
