The sales tax collection numbers have been released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC).

Weatherford is up 1.24 percent compared to last year, according to the OTC.

The numbers released in January are sales tax collections from November sales.

Weatherford saw an increase in November with sales tax with reciepts of $886,854.26 compared to last year’s numbers of $875,959.42.

Some of the categories seeing an increase are household appliance stores, electronics stores, and women’s clothing stores.

“We’re starting off the year with numbers being up compared to last year. Looking at the month-tomonth with the new stimulus checks I think we’ll see an increase for the next 3 months. Eleven out of the 12 months in 2020 we were down, but we were only down a total of 7 percent and we’re very fortunate it was only down by a small percentage. Hopefully this year, sales tax is better and we encourage everyone to shop locally,” Mayor Mike Brown said.

Thomas sales tax were down by 2.96 percent, Chickasha was down 19.18 percent, Clinton was down 19.03 percent, Oklahoma City was up 3.78 percent, Enid was up .98 percent, Elk City was down 8.32-percent, Altus was up by 5.75 percent, Woodward was down 6.23 percent, El Reno was down 2.31 percent, Hydro was up 2.29 percent and Cordell was up by 37.09 percent. Cordell also instituted a new 1-percent sales tax, which accounts for the increase in sales tax. The new sales took effect in January 2020.

The Weatherford Use Tax representing online sales was up 8.65 percent compared to last year’s collections. Weatherford collected a total of $100,438.01. Last year’s collected use tax numbers were $92,441.87.
