MERRITT — Friday night, the Thomas-Fay-Custer Terriers took a road trip to Merritt and left town with a 42-13 win.
“This time of year, your main goal is to get a district win and keep everyone healthy,” coach Bob Ward said. “It was a good night all around because we did those two things.”
Thomas got on the board first with a 38-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jaxon Ward to wide receiver Jaxen Mannering.
Thomas scored again in the first quarter as Ward threw a short touchdown pass to wide receiver Owen Baldwin and Thomas was ahead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter, running back Ethan Hamberlin scored a touchdown on a 65-yard rushing touchdown giving them a 21-0 lead.
Jeremiah Fernandez scored a rushing touchdown giving Thomas a 28-0 advantage at halftime.
Thomas was ahead 28-0 and blocked by Jace Miller and picked up by Christian Carnegie giving Thomas great field position and they scored an 8-yard touchdown run by backup quarterback Chance Simpson.
In the fourth quarter, Simpson scored a touchdown on a quarterback keeper and Thomas was ahead 42-0. Merritt scored 13 points unanswered, but Thomas won 42-13.
“It is great to see our younger guys and guys who might not get to play a lot get some playing time and be successful,” Ward said. “They work really hard and it is awesome to see them get to play on Friday nights.”
Thomas improves to 5-0 in district play and 6-1 overall. Their next game is 7 p.m. Friday at home against Burns Flat-Dill City.
“Burns Flat is much improved,” Ward said. “They have made a lot of progress coming back to 11-man. They are athletic and can be a scary football team. We must have a good week of practice this week if we want to get the win. We will have to be very sound on defense in order to slow their offense down.”
