TYRONE — The Corn Bible Academy Crusaders have been unable to nab that first football win of the season.

Thursday, they took a long road trip to Tyrone in hopes of getting their first win, but came up short, losing 49-0.

“Give credit to Tyrone because they are a good team and had size,” offensive coordinator Brendon Schmidt said. “They executed better than we did and they were just better than us. We played hard and prepared. We just failed to stop them, but I thought we played well, other than the score.”

Corn Bible was behind early as Tyrone was ahead 23-0 at the end of the first quarter. Down 43-0 at halftime, Tyrone tried a field goal to end the game at halftime, but they missed and both teams went into the locker room after the kick.

“We told our players to keep fighting at halftime,” Schmidt said. “Their defensive ends were fast and they kept blitzing.”

Tyrone scored a touchdown in the third quarter and Corn Bible lost 49-0 and the game was called due to mercy rule. Corn Bible remains winless on the season, but they had a game Monday against Beaver, who also was winless going into the game.

Despite the final outcome, Schmidt said there were some positives to take away from the game.

“With this being such a crazy year, I am proud of the way we competed,” Schmidt said. “We have a quick turnaround against Beaver. We were just out-horsed and they were better than we were.”

Schmidt said being in a new district this season is hard with the long road trips and good teams. Corn Bible has and will travel to schools in the Oklahoma Panhandle such as Tyrone and Boise City.

“The northwest district is tough,” Schmidt said. “We are learning how to travel and these new road trips are long. We just have to keep getting better and keep grinding through this season.”
