The Weatherford boys were crowned Class 4A District Champions after Saturday’s win against Western Heights, 82-51.

“I am happy we took care of business,” coach Derrick Bull said. “Our eyes are set on Douglass for the regional semifinal.”

Weatherford will play Douglass 8:30 p.m. Friday at Enid High School in the Class 4A Regional Tournament.

Weatherford took control of the game early with plays like Cade Jennings scoring an open 3-pointer. Weatherford was ahead 24-6 going into the second quarter.

Weatherford outscored Western Heights, 12-1, to open the second quarter. Stone Chisum hit a 3- point shot, giving Weatherford a 50-16 lead at halftime. Jennings scored 17 points in the first half. CJ Nickson scored 13 points in the first half as well.

“Cade and CJ have been doing their thing all season long,” Bull said. “We got off to a great start with them scoring the way they did. They both are so tough to guard and played really well tonight.”

In the second half, Weatherford continued to score and built a 40 point lead going into the fourth quarter, leading 71-31.

In the fourth quarter, Bull replaced the starters and to cap the game off, Steele Chism hit a buzzer beater. Weatherford won the game, 82-51. “I am glad everyone was able to

“I am glad everyone was able to get some playing time,” Bull said. “We all chipped in and it was a super fun night for us.”

Nickson scored 21 points and Jennings scored 17 points. Stone Chism scored 10 points for Weatherford off the bench. Bull said he has played well when he gets into games.

“Stone has been in the mix for us,” Bull said. “He is our seventh man right now and at times in the regular season, we threw him in the rotation. He plays well when he is on the court and tonight, played well when the opportunities arise. This only boosts his confidence.”

Weatherford improves to 19-5 and advances to the regional semifinals.

“We have to be able to handle their pressure,” Bull said. “They will pressure us in multiple different ways. Whether it be in the full court or in the half court. We have to be ready for that and take care of the basketball. On defense, we have to be able to defend their offense and it will take lots of things to go our way. This definitely will be a challenge, but we are looking forward to it.”
