Lady Bobcats defeat Gracemont 81-26

GRACEMONT — After an impressive first half, the Hydro-Eakly Lady Bobcats basketball team defeated Gracemont 81-26 Monday night at Gracemont.

“It was good because everyone got playing time,” coach Jeremy Tharp said. “The Berkey girls played well and it was a good night for us to gain confidence and to improve.”

The Lady Bobcats proved to be the better team right from the start and were ahead 22-0. In the second quarter, Hydro-Eakly was ahead 40-2 at one time. They continued to play great defense and were ahead 47-4 at halftime.

“I told them the second half was a good time to work on things we are struggling at,” Tharp said. “It is good to have a game like we had because we can relax and work on certain things we are weak at.”

The Lady Bobcats did that and more, jumping ahead 69-14 at the end of the third quarter. Everyone got to play in the game and the Lady Bobcats won the game 81-26.

“We passed really well and moved the ball well,” Tharp said. “Overall, we played really well. When you play a team like we played, lots of things are going to look really good. I was really pleased with everyone and we gained lots of confidence from Monday’s game.”

Rees Berkey scored 24 points, Kira Berkey scored 17 points, Tessa York scored 13 points and Mackenzie Rodriquez scored 10 points.

“I want to see our girls continue to grow,” Tharp said. “With the COVID-19 break, we are not anywhere close to where we were last season. I want to see us continue to get better and grow as a team.”
