CORN — The Corn Bible Academy Lady Crusaders are ready to take the court for volleyball, but head coach Erin Basinger knows this will be a completely different season like no other.

“This will definitely be a different season,” Basinger said. “With all the COVID-19 precautions being taken, we will have to be flexible. There could be cancelations of games or games being postponed. We are excited to play and grateful we get the chance to play.”

Basinger said practice has been going well and there are a lot of girls out for volleyball this season.

“I have a lot of girls who want to play volleyball,” Basinger said. “Practice has been good and the girls are working hard and putting really good effort into practice.”

Senior outside hitter Kasya Carpenter said during practice, they do basic drills such as serving and doing set drills.

I am really excited for the season to begin,” Carpenter said. “We have been going back to the basics and really knowing how to do fundamental volleyball skills.”

Senior middle Kennedy Listak said the team has learned time-management skills and good work ethic during practice.

“We are ready for the season to begin, but it starts with doing these things first,” Listak said. “We have been practicing really hard and I am ready for the season to begin. Practice has been tough, but it will pay off.”

Basinger has been at CBA for 8 years and graduated from the school in 2006. She came back to CBA because she wanted to coach volleyball.

“I love volleyball and I missed being around it,” Basinger said. “CBA needed a new head coach and I took the job and have loved the journey ever since.”

Basinger said practice is going really well and they have been working on team bonding as well.

“We are working on skills and fundamentals,” Basinger said. “We are doing some team bonding activities this week and are pushing each other to get better and better reach day.”

Listak said the upperclassmen will encourage the underclassmen.

“I want them to be successful,” Listak said. “We will help them if they need help with anything and we will not talk down to them like they are in middle school, because they are not. We want to be encouraging because they are part of the team.” Listak said the team has a lot of depth

“We have a lot of people on our team,” Listak said. “They paid a lot of attention during practice and are going to be good, so if we have to have players out due to COVID-19 or other reasons, other players will step up.” CBA’s first game is 4 p.m. August
