FAIRVIEW — The Thomas-Fay-Custer Terriers went on the road to a familiar Fairview to take on the Yellowjackets.

The Terriers didn’t have much trouble defeating the Yellowjackets as they went on to win the game 34-14. This also gave the Terriers their second district win for the 2020 season.

“Anytime we come to Fairview and get a district win we’re happy. It’s a tough place to play and we’ve had some struggles here,” coach Bob Ward said. “For the most part we played pretty well tonight, we just got to fix some of the penalty issues. We want to continue to be aggressive but we also got to be smart about it and not shoot ourselves in the foot.”

Two out of the three touchdowns senior, Ethan Hamberlin, scored came in the first quarter of the game. Hamberlin scored both the touchdowns in the first quarter for Thomas to give them the 14-0 advantage against the Yellowjackets going into the second quarter.

Fairview started with the ball but good stop on defense from the Terriers led to an 85-yard drive from the Terrier offense which resulted in another touchdown from Hamberlin.

In the start of the second half the Terrier defense got a quick 3-and-out on the Yellowjackets to kick things off. For the remainder of the quarter neither team put any points on the board, and the score remained 21-0 who Thomas in the lead.

A 25-yard run from Hamberlin on the first play of the quarter got the momentum going for the Terriers and eventually it lead to a touchdown from Jaxen Mannering gave Thomas a 28-point lead against Fairview.

Another touchdown run from Chance Simpson gave the Terriers another 6 points. The Yellowjackets went on to score two unanswered touchdowns but it wouldn’t be enough to take down the Terriers as they went on to win the game 34-14.

“Part of our game plan is to throw the ball and hope it opens up the run game a little bit more, which I think eventually happened. Ethan is a very special back, he’s got great vision. He made two or three really great cuts to get in the end zone,” Ward said.

The Terriers are now 3-1 on the season and looking to improve to 4-1 as they take on Hooker 7 p.m.
