Thomas-Fay-Custer bounced back from a loss last week to Cashion, by beating Mooreland, 24-0.

The win was Thomas’ first in district play.

“We had to look ourselves in the mirror, we had some mistakes against Cashion and they’re a really good football team,” coach Bob Ward said.

“There’s a lot of little stuff we can improve on, you have to watch film and look at yourself and identify some corrections.”

The game started with a lot of back-and-forth between the Bearcats and the Terriers. With both teams turning the ball over on downs more than once left the score 0-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Terriers quickly bounced back in the second quarter and it started with a 50- yard run from Noah Rainwater, leading to a 13-yard touchdown from Hamberlin to put the Terriers on top 7-0. The Terrier defense continued to stop the Bearcats offense throughout the entire second quarter. A field goal from the Terriers right before halftime gave them a 10-0 advantage against the Bearcats.

The Terriers defense continued to get stops in the third quarter which lead to a 20- yard touchdown pass from Jaxon Ward to Noah Rainwater to take 17-0 lead with 7:54 remaining in the third quarter. Another touchdown run from Hamberlin put the Terriers up 24-0 going into the fourth quarter.

The Terriers defense continued to shut out the Bearcats offense and never allowed them to score for the entirety of the game. The Terriers went on to take the 24-0 win agonist they Bearcats to improve their record to 2-1 for the season.

“Mooreland presents a different problem then Cashion does so the scheme changed a little bit. But I was proud of our guys for how they bowed up in the second half. I thought we were a little sloppy in the first half but we came out and did well the second half,” Ward said.

The Terriers are on the road next week and will travel to Fairview, kickoff is 7 p.m.
