KINGFISHER — The Weatherford boys cross country placed third place at the Kingfisher Invitational and it was their first full 5K of the season.

“I was not happy with the way we ran as a team,” coach Kaleb Fischer said. “Like the girls race, we looked sluggish and not into it.”

Weatherford was missing Jacoby Welsh and Fischer said his absence made a difference in how they performed.

Weatherford finished in third place scored 84 points. Coming in second place was the OKC Knights with 70 points. Guthrie won the race scoring 31 points.

Grant Christian had a Top-10 finish for Weatherford coming in seventh with a time of 19:32.02.

“Grant has been working on fixing little parts of his race,” Fischer said. “He was able to do those things better this week to get in the Top 10.”

Garry Rose finished 11th with a total time of 19:49.84. Right behind Rose was Alberto Arrieta as he finished 12th with a time of 19:57.63. A.J. Stevenson finished 21st with a time of 20:28.32. Luke Jett finished 50th with a time of 22:41.60. Jorge Martinez finished 58th with a time of 23:07.80. Ronaldo Garcia finished 84th with a time of 24:10.64. Luis Hernandez finished 92nd with a time of 24:49.14. Braden Hinton finished 93rd with a time of 25:07.73.

Weatherford’s next meet is 8:30 a.m. Saturday September 12 at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, hosted by Oklahoma Baptist University.

“We just need to be better in the future,” Fischer said. “We also need to just keep improving on how we can run together and not be so separated.”
