ELK CITY — Weatherford defeated Pampa, Texas, 64-24 Saturday in the second game of the Elk City Pioneer Classic.

“Defensively, we are playing really well,” coach Grant Givens said. “Friday, we held Piedmont to 30 points. We played well against Pampa too. We have to settle down on offense and get better, but that will come as the season progresses.”

Defense played well and Weatherford pressed most of the first quarter. Weatherford did not allow a point until midway through the first quarter — a free throw. Weatherford moved the ball well and was ahead 17-5 at the end of the first quarter. Jordan Hoffman scored 11 of those 17 points.

Addy Hoffman scored the first eight points for Weatherford. The Lady Eagles were ahead 39-14 at halftime.

“Once we settled down and did not force anything, we played just fine,” Givens said. “Right now, we are playing tight. We are not totally comfortable just yet, but we will get better as the season progresses.”

Weatherford outscored Pampa in a portion of the third quarter, 10-0. Pampa did not score until midway through the third quarter. Weatherford was ahead 52-18 going into the fourth quarter.

Weatherford won the game 64-24.

“We played well, but we have to focus on running our offense and we continued to move the ball,” Givens said. “If our bench can keep defending and getting rebounds, it will be a huge help. Also, any scoring they do is icing on the cake.”

Addy Hoffman scored 25 points and Jordan Hoffman scored 16 points.

“Addy did a great job finding holes in the defense,” Givens said. “As a whole, we did a great job getting her the ball and she got lots of good looks and knocked them down.”

Weatherford is 2-0 on the season and will play its next game, 4 p.m. Thursday against Southeast in the first round of the Community Christian Tournament.

“We have to continue to play great defense,” Givens said. “I feel like we have to be better at getting rebounds. We tend to just let the ball hit the floor instead of going up strong and getting a rebound. Offensively, we just have to keep improving and this is vital if we want to get to where we want to at the end of the year.”
