CUSHING — Weatherford girls golf had a Top-10 finish as a team at the Cushing tournament Monday.

Weatherford shot a 388 as a team and finished seventh ou of 18 teams.

“I thought we had a good round today,” coach Kyle Mickley said. “We competed well, even though it was not our best golf. We had stretches of golf which were really good. These stretches included a couple of birdies and several pars. Then we had a few holes which got the best of us due to errant tee shots and some struggles putting.”

Mickley said this was a tough tournament and they played well as a team overall.

“The girls are doing a pretty good job of improving as the season is going along,” Mickley said. “Chloe (Cummins) and Rachel (Carruth) do a great job for us because they are good players. They need to continue to get better and more consistent around the greens. The Elwick girls both are hitting the ball more solidly as the season goes and their scoring average is improving. Maddy (Hada) has gotten more consistent and her scores are improving quite a bit. We got another freshman some experience in Bayli Lawles who competed as an individual. She has a really bright future and will be a big part of our program moving forward.”

Weatherford will play Wednesday at Clinton. Mickley said Weatherford is bringing 11 golfers and he is excited to see them compete.

“Throughout the year, we have had several girls in the lineup who have competed well and gained some valuable experience,” Mickley said. “We will have 11 girls competing at Clinton. A lot of them are really close together as far as their scoring average goes, so I expect to see them compete well at Clinton. The competition within our team is making us better as the year goes along.”
