Weatherford prepares to host Little league tournaments this weekend

The Weatherford Baseball Boosters and the City of Weatherford will host the OK Kids Regional Tournament Thursday through Saturday at the Kiwanis Baseball Complex.

The city is hosting four regional tournaments and a state softball tournament.

A regional originally scheduled to be played in Elgin was moved to Weatherford as well. Weatherford is hosting two of eight 12U regionals from across the state. They are hosting one of the eight T-ball regional and the softball 10U state tournament.

This tournament features five teams and is a double-elimination tournament which begins Thursday, with the championship game Saturday.

The five teams in the tournament are the Ada Dodgers, the Ada Thunder, Dibble, the Purcell Jaybirds and the Sulphur Bulldogs.

Sulphur and the Ada Thunder play the first game, 2 p.m. Thursday. The winner plays Dibble, 6 p.m. Thursday with the losers of both of games dropping to the loser’s bracket.

Purcell and the Ada Dodgers play, 4 p.m. Thursday. The winner of that game plays the winner of the 6 p.m. game and the loser drops into the loser’s bracket.

The loser drops into the losers bracket and plays 8 p.m. Friday. The winner of that game plays the winner of the 4 p.m. game Friday in the championship game. T-ball Regional 1 The T-ball regional is different from the 12U

The T-ball regional is different from the 12U regionals as there only are four teams instead of five. There are no games Thursday, but games Friday and Saturday. The four teams are the Weatherford Eagles, the Blanchard Ballers, the Fletcher Wildcats and the Kingfisher Jackets. All of the players on the Fletcher Wildcats are younger than 6.

There are four games Friday. The first game is 3:30 p.m. between Kingfisher and Fletcher. The second game is 5 p.m. between Weatherford and Blanchard. The losers play 6:30 p.m. and the winners play 8 p.m. Friday. The winner of that game advances to the championship game. For Saturday, the first game will begin 12:30

10U State Softball Tournament

Weatherford has one of 12 teams competing in the state tournament. Their first game is 8 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Stillwater or Alva.

The 12 teams who qualified for the state tournament are Weatherford, Alva, Arapaho, Coalgate, Durant, Henryetta, Merritt, Mangum, Lane, Stillwater, Seiling and Porum.

Thursday’s games will feature first and second round games and no team will be eliminated Thursday. Four teams have first round byes and those teams are Weatherford, Lane, Mangum and Porum. The elimination games will begin Friday afternoon and the winner’s brackets games will begin Friday evening.

There will be three games Saturday. The first game will begin 12:30 p.m. between two teams, the final two teams in the loser’s bracket for a spot in the championship game. The championship game will begin 2 p.m. and the if necessary game will begin 3:30 p.m.
