Weatherford wraps up summer baseball

ENID — The Weatherford Eagles summer baseball team ended their 2020 summer league season in a tournament last weekend in Enid.

The teams played four games total in this tournament, two games Saturday and two games Sunday.

Saturday, they lost to the Enid Majors 5-4, but bounced back and beat the Enid White 11-1. Sunday, they beat the Enid Plainsman 8-7, but lost to the Monarchs Black 9-1.

Enid Majors 5, Weatherford 4

The first two innings were quiet as no runs were scored until the top of the third. Weatherford scored 3 runs in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Murphy Beck hit a ball into the outfield and Sam Hoffman, Dane McPherson and Gunnar Gaunt scored.

Weatherford scored a run in the top of the fourth, taking a 4-0 lead. Braden Epp scored off an Enid Majors error.

Enid matched Weatherford’s run scored in the top of the fourth as they scored a run in the bottom of the fourth off a walk with the bases loaded.

Enid tied the game, 4-4. scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth. They scored their runs off an error, a walk with the bases loaded and scored a run as Weatherford turned a double play.

Enid took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth as they scored off a Weatherford error and won the game, 5-4.

Weatherford 11, Enid White 1

Weatherford dominated the entire game, especially in the top of the third as they scored nine innings.

Weatherford scored 2 runs in the top of the first. Beck hit a triple and Gaunt scored, Epp stole second base and while he was stealing second, Beck scored from third as he stole home.

The second inning was quiet, but the Eagles scored nine runs in the top of the third. Beck hit a single into left field and Gaunt scored. Epp hit a double and Beck scored. Wyatt Chisum hit a single into left field and Callen Agan and Reece Villines each scored.

Grady Chaplin hit a ground ball and was safe and Villines scored. McPherson hit a ground ball and reached third base off an error by the shortstop and Chaplin scored. Beck hit a double to right field and Hoffman, McPherson and Gaunt scored on that play.

Enid scored a run in the bottom of the third as the bases were loaded and Weatherford hit a batter, making the score 11-1. No runs were scored in the bottom of the fourth and the game ended as the run rule effect came into play.

Weatherford 8, Enid Plainsman 7

This ball game went into extra innings and was a rollercoaster for each team.

No runs were scored in the first inning, but Weatherford scored 3 runs in the top of the second. Chisum hit a single into right field and Agan scored. For the next at bat for Weatherford, Chaplin hit a single into right field and Cameron Pruit hit scored. Hoffman hit a single into left field and Chisum scored.

Enid scored a run in the bottom of the second as they hit a single to center field. Enid also scored 3 runs in the bottom of the third off two passed balls. One of those passed ball resulted in 2 runs being scored on the same play. As a result of these plays, Enid took the lead 4-3 going into the fourth inning.

No runs were scored in the fourth inning, but Weatherford scored 2 runs in the top of the fifth. Beck hit a double into center field and McPherson and Gaunt scored, making the score 5-4, Weatherford, going into the sixth inning.

Weatherford scored a run in the top of the sixth as Enid committed an error on a ground ball hit by Hoffman and Chaplin scored.

Enid tied the game, 6-6, in the bottom of the sixth as they scored 2 runs. They scored on two singles and no runs were scored in the seventh inning, resulting in extra innings.

In the extra inning, Kade Kelsey hit a single into right field and Beck scored from second base. Kelsey advanced to second base while the ball was being thrown home in an attempt to get Beck out. Three at bats later, Kelsey scored as the bases were loaded as Chisum was walked. Weatherford was ahead 8-6 and needed 3 outs to win the game.

Enid scored a run in the off a sacrifice fly caught by McPherson. The game ended as Villines, who was playing second base, caught a line drive to get the third out.

Monarchs Black, 9 Weatherford 1

Weatherford scored its only run of the game in the top of the first, as Gaunt hit a fly ball to right field. The right fielder caught the ball, but Hoffman scored on the play.

The Monarchs Black scored 5 runs in the bottom of the first. The first 3 runs were scored off of three walks in a row with the bases loaded. The next 2 runs were scored on a single hit by the Monarchs Black.

The Monarchs Black scored 2 runs in the bottom of the third. The first run was scored off a sacrifice fly ball caught by Agan. The second run was scored off a single.

The game ended in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Monarchs Black only needed 2 runs for the run rule effect to play in. They scored their 2 runs off a double hit into the outfield as two runners scored.
