Two years ago, the Weatherford Lady Eagles softball team played in one of the easiest districts in class 4A.

Fast forward 2 years later, Weatherford now plays in one of the toughest districts in Class 4A. The district did not change very much when the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association made changes to the districts before the start of the 2019 season.

Districts are set every 2 years for fast-pitch softball.

But that change added Class 4A powerhouse Tuttle. The Lady Tigers won the district last season and Weatherford was close to beating them. Teams such as Elgin, Cache, Clinton and Elk City are showing improvement as well.

“Our district is going to be tougher than it has ever been,” coach Rick Morris said. “Tuttle will be the favorite to win the district and those two games against them will not be easy. Elgin and Cache will be pretty good. Clinton and Elk City are getting better. It is going to be a tough ride, but our girls are up for th challenge.”

The two games against Tuttle are September 1 at home and at Tuttle September 15. Last season, Weatherford finished second behind Tuttle and both games were competitive. The first game, Weatherford lost 2-1 and the second game they lost 6-5.

Morris said Tuttle is a big game, but there are other really good teams in the district such as Elgin and Cache. Weatherford beat Elgin and Cache both times they played each other last season.

“The Tuttle games are ones we are looking at the most,” Morris said. “Another challenge in our schedule will be against Elgin and Cache. Elgin and Cache are a long ways away. Our district is going to be tough.”

Teams in Weatherford’s district are Anadarko, Cache, Clinton, Elgin, Elk City, Mount St. Mary and Tuttle. Their district is the only district with eight teams on the west side of the state as the other districts have seven teams. Some districts on the east side of the state have only six teams.
