Thursday evening saw a celebration of the beauty of the holiday season and the beauty of artistic expression on Southwestern Oklahoma State’s campus.

The Weatherford Arts Council along with folks in Language and Literature, Art, Communication, and Theater and Music departments at SWOSU collaborated to host the annual Holiday Arts Exhibition.

The art on display is a mix of student and faculty pieces, and there are a total of nine artists on display.

While the art is scheduled to be displayed for more than two weeks, the artists were celebrated with a special reception Thursday.

“We put this on every year as a cap for the semester,” Dr. Todd Parker said. Dr. Parker is a professor in the Art, Communication and Theatre department, and he has art on display at the exhibition as well.

Dr. Parker shared more information about the event.

“It’s a holiday art show with live performances, live readings and sometimes musical performances. It’s an opportunity for faculty and students to show some of their work and exhibit work at the end of the semester.

There’s also a chance for people to make some arts and crafts in the foyer.”

As the semester comes to a close with finals beginning Monday, Dr. Parker shared his thoughts on the semester. “I think the semester has gone really well. We’ve had some challenges, but I think it has gone well,” he said.

“My favorite part of the work I get to do with my students is whenever I see them develop in their skills as artists and have the “aha” moment and understand they can do it and achieve the work. I try to encourage that.”

The art shows runs through December 16, and community members are invited to visit the art building on SWOSU’s campus to see the pieces on display.
