The Weatherford Public Schools Board of Education awarded the contract for the new concession stand and locker room buildings at Woody Roof Field during a special meeting Tuesday.

Board President Dennis Green, Vice-President Bryan Bayless and Member Chris Gregston were present for the meeting.

The board received three bids and awarded the contract to American Iron Construction, which came in at $1,707,202.97.

Architect Roy Easley, who is the architect overseeing the WPS bond projects, said the bids came in a bit higher than the expected $1.5 million due to material shortages and an increas in labor costs.

Easley said one benefit to this company is they don’t hire many subcontractors and handle most the work in-house.

The bid lists the project as 339 calendar days. However, Easley said after speaking with American Iron representatives, the project most likely could be done in 6-8 months.

Easley also said he spoke with the city and there didn’t seem to be anything preventing the district from obtaining the needed permits.

The board received bids from two other companies: a $2,350,000 and 210-day bid from Cedar Ridge General Contracting and a $2,237,000 and 365-day bid from Crossland Construction.

The board also approved general and building fund encumbrances totaling $8,904.32.
