Route 66 Nights is back with the Suds and Burgers Festival 6-9 p.m. Thursday in Weatherford Towne Centre.

Local organizations will compete to create the best burgers, with the top prize of $500 going to a charity of their choice. Attendees can enjoy their pick of burger for $5 each as well as a dunk tank with local celebrities, shopping, vendors, beer and cornhole at The Shed.

One of the competitors Thursday evening is PALS Family, Inc., a local foster agency and family resource center. PALS stand for People and Love Succeed.

Founder Amanda Hills-Dodson said the organization’s goal is to reunify families in the foster system. To achieve this goal, foster families working with the agency are given extensive training to assist children who have been neglected and abused.

PALS also works with the biological families to ensure they take whatever classes or other assignments they need for reunification.

Hills-Dodson said she is excited for the grilling competition.

“Michelle Lee reached out and asked if we would like to participate, and I said ‘yes’ immediately,” Hills-Dodson said. “We are all about doing anything which benefits the community."

She said the PALS team has some tricks up its sleeve to give it an edge in the competition.

“We have helped several families in the last year, and the donations from last year have about dried up, so we are looking forward to this competition,” Hills-Dodson said.
