Ralph Lovell

Ralph James Lovell, 66, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully March 27, 2024, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, in Katy, Texas. A reception to follow at the church. There will be a livestream available at bit.ly/ RJLService.

Ralph was born in Guymon in 1957 to James and Janis Lovell. He was the eldest of four children. He grew up in various college towns as both of his parents pursued careers in academia.

He spent most of his childhood in Weatherford and graduated as valedictorian of Weatherford High School. He was an Eagle Scout. He graduated with a degree in Computer Science from Oklahoma State University.

He moved to Texas for work and met his wife in Houston at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church. He spent most of his career as a Computer Systems Analyst with USAA while he and his wife raised their children in San Antonio. They moved to Katy, Texas, to be closer to their grandchildren.

Some of his favorite activities were spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially watching them play sports or watching various sporting events with them on television. Ralph and his family loved hosting foreign exchange students, and Ralph particularly enjoyed teaching them about history and sports. He loved singing his whole life and was a member of several choirs. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include: Debra “Debbie” Lovell, his wife of 37 years; his children, Dr. Amy Gremillion and her husband, Charlie, and Tim Lovell and his wife, Tiffany; his grandchildren, Noah Lovell, McKenzi Lovell, Chase Gremillion, Connor Gremillion and Cody Gremillion; his siblings, Dr. Randall Lovell and his wife, Susan, Rhonda Lovell, J.D. and her husband, Will Yearian, and Dr. Diana Lovell and her fiancé, Dr. Stephen O’Grady; mother-inlaw, Mary Lu Mase; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ralph was preceded in death by: his parents, Dr. James and Dr. Janis Lovell; and his fatherin- law Gerald Mase.

Donations may be made in his honor to either of the following: The Heartland of America Museum — founded by his parents — in Weatherford.
