UNION CITY — Hydro-Eakly took the short trip to Union City and won 63-22 Tuesday night.

In the first quarter, Hydro-Eakly played very sound on defense and was ahead 15-4 at the end of the first quarter.

“We played well on defense,” coach Jeremy Tharp said. “They had one good ball handler and we did not play well at first. We picked it up and played well. I was worried at first coming off the tournament win, but we found our gear and settled in.”

Hydro-Eakly really got going in the second quarter and expanded its lead to 31-12 at halftime.

The Lady Bobcat defense remained solid in the second half, only allowing six points in the third quarter. Hydro-Eakly was ahead 50-18 going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was not any different from the third quarter, as the Lady Bobcats only allowed four points in the fourth quarter. They won the game 63-22 to remain unbeaten.

“I felt like we finished well and took great care of the ball,” Tharp said. “We did not shoot our best, but we shot well enough to win and play well.”

Kira Berkey scored 18 points and Rees Berkey scored 13 points. Hydro-Eakly improves to 10-0. They will play their next game in the Slick Hills tournament at Boone-Apache High School January 6 against Big Pasture. Tipoff is set for 1:40 p.m.

“We will begin fine tuning our game,” Tharp said. “We know about us as a team and we are getting better. We are beginning to iron some of those wrinkles out and are excited about this team and what is to come.”
